I’ve been meaning to get into podcasts for awhile now. I know so many inspiring people who listen to podcasts daily, and all of a sudden I felt like I was wasting my days away. I could be listening and learning while I worked, or even while I ate.
Today, I downloaded the first few episodes of My Favorite Murder on iTunes. I’ve always been a fan of – okay, maybe not a fan of, but fascinated by – true crime. I’ve watched Forensic Files, American Crime Story, multiple documentaries on Ted Bundy and other serial killers, etc. I’ve fallen down the Wikipedia serial killer rabbit hole. Multiple times.
Let me make it clear that I don’t love or support murder, but murder cases are such a mystery from the start and I love mysteries. I’m also really interested in the psychology behind serial killings. Season 2 of American Crime Story, The Assassination of Gianni Versace, was especially riveting to me. I learned so much about Andrew Cunanan’s mind’s inner workings, and each episode could not come soon enough.
Anyway, back to My Favorite Murder. Hosted by two women, it’s definitely very casual in nature. Lots of joking, colloquialisms, and general banter. It’s got a very friendly vibe. Because the two women seem to be so close, it’s almost like you’re a part of their friend group, listening to and participating in the conversation.
Episode 1 is called My Firstest Murder. It’s a little over an hour long, which is a little long for me, but it would have been really great to listen to at the gym. It didn’t really get started until about 10 minutes in, when they decided to begin with a true crime news story.
Overall, I really liked this podcast because it’s got a storytelling feel to it. It’s definitely not scripted, or censored, and just feels very real.
